Our Courses
What is an intensive course?
Our intensive courses involve longer driving lessons, with each session lasting a minimum of two hours and a maximum of five hours. You’ll usually have lessons on several days a week, with our most intensive course structure involving lessons every day according to your schedule.
Want to take things slower? We can arrange a semi-intensive course for you, which is easier to fit around a busy schedule — an example of this would be taking two-hour sessions on a couple of evenings a week.
Don’t be put off if you don’t want to learn intensively — we’re fast but also flexible. We’ll help to arrange your course however you want it.
Which course should I choose?
We have 17 different Automatic and Manual courses to choose from. When choosing your course, be mindful of your current driving ability and the experience you’ll need to pass your test.
According to the DVSA, it takes an average of 46 hours of driving tuition to get up to passing standard. If you’re a complete beginner, we’d recommend taking one of our longest courses to ensure you’re prepared for the test. If you have more driving experience, a shorter course is likely to be more suitable.
Still not sure? Get in touch with our team on 07961 976 822 and we’ll help you find the perfect course.
What if I need to add more lessons to my driving course?
It’s usually possible to add more hours to your course. However, to fit the additional hours in, your instructor might ask to reschedule your practical test date. Because of this, it’s best to book the right amount of hours rather than trying your luck with fewer lessons.
To add extra hours to your course, please call us on 07961 976 822.
What if I don't use up all of my course hours?
If you end up passing with fewer lessons than you booked, you can use these for further tuition (motorway tuition, for example). Unfortunately, due to the all-inclusive nature of our courses, any unused hours are non-refundable.
What's included in a LDS course?
We give you everything you need to help you pass, including:
- Help to book theory test (if needed)
- Help to book practical test (if needed)
- One-on-one tuition from a local, DVSA-approved driving instructor
- Lessons that fit around your schedule
- Home and workplace pickups in most cases
- Support at every step from our friendly office team
We have a range of courses to suit all learners — from short refreshers for those with plenty of experience to comprehensive packages for beginners. Check out our courses for full details here to find your perfect fit.
Do I need to save any hours from my course for the practical test?
Between 1–3 hours of your course can be reserved for your test. For example, our 46-hour course would then include 43 hours of lessons, and the remaining 3 hours would be dedicated to lessons performed on your test day, However when you book your practical car hire for the test day, a 1-hour lesson is also included to help boost your confidence and refine your driving skills.
The amount of time needed depends on your location, course structure, and instructor. Your instructor will discuss this with you ahead of your test date.
I'm a nervous driver — is this course right for me?
Our experienced, highly professional and DVSA-approved instructors’ friendly and patient approach to driving tuition will help you feel at ease behind the wheel.
Our courses are faster than the old way of learning to drive, but never rushed. Everybody learns differently, so you can take your course at a pace that works for you.
Your instructor will pay careful attention to your progress, providing the guidance you need to help you become a safe and confident driver. Don’t worry — you’re in good hands.
Can I choose the number of hours of lessons I take per day?
Our courses are flexible. Together with your instructor, you’re free to decide on a lesson plan that works for you, helping you to pass fast even on a busy schedule.
Do I have to do the course intensively?
No! Our courses are flexible and can be structured to suit your needs. Depending on your schedule and instructor’s availability, it’s possible to take as little as two hours of lessons per day, or as many as five hours.
Check out our guide to semi-intensive driving courses to learn more.
Am I guaranteed to pass?
We do not offer ‘guaranteed pass’ courses because we believe success comes from effort and preparation. Instead, we focus on delivering high-quality tuition from experienced, highly professional, DVSA-approved instructors, with personalized lesson plans and exceptional customer service to ensure you're fully prepared and confident for your test. Your success is our priority.
If your practical test doesn’t go to plan, we’ll prioritize booking you a new refresher course to help you get your license on the next try. You can usually take the next test at the same place and with the same instructor, so you’ll be familiar with the car and local test routes.
With a pass rate significantly higher than the national average and countless happy passers, LDS works!
Can I take my course in an automatic car?
Yes! You can do your course in either a manual or automatic car. Completion times will vary between transmission and your location.
Can I do my lessons on weekends only?
Yes! But please bear in mind that weekend lesson slots are always in high demand and get booked up much faster. If you need weekend lessons only, you should expect to wait longer to start your lessons. Usually, the more available you can be, the faster you can get your license.
Unfortunately, the DVSA don’t carry out many weekend tests (with most test centers closed completely over weekends), so your test will need to be on a weekday.
Do I need to visit the LDS office to take my course?
Nope! The course will take place in your local area, and your instructor will usually pick you up and drop you off at home or work.
Do you do home pickups?
Yes! In most cases, our instructors will pick you up and drop you off at a location of your choice. There are a very small number of areas (like some London postcodes) where home pick ups aren’t practical. In these cases, your instructor will usually pick you up from a train/tube station to:
- Avoid congestion charges and keep the cost of your lessons down
- Avoid wasting time travelling to the test area
- Avoid traffic and maximize your driving test
If your instructor isn’t able to start lessons from your chosen address, they’ll let you know. Give us a call on 07961 976 822 if you have any questions regarding your pick-up address.
Can I be picked up from my workplace?
Usually, yes — you can do your entire course from your work. This may not be possible if your home and work are far apart because all instructors have specific areas that they cover.
When will my lessons start?
To give you the best chance of passing, we design our courses around the practical test date. Once a suitable date has been agreed, we’ll assign an instructor who is able to match your availability.
Building your course this way helps to keep your lessons as close to the test date as possible, so everything you learned is fresh in your mind for the big day.
Learners who are taking a beginner course may be offered the option to start their driving lessons early. Just let us know if you'd like to get started there, or by calling us on 07961 976 822.
Pricing and Payments
How much does a LDS course costs?
Our course prices vary by location, course length, vehicle transmission, and whether you choose to include a theory and/or practical test as part of your booking.
For full details about each of our courses, visit our prices page or give us a call on 07961 976 822.
What is the 14-day cancellation period, and what does it mean to waive it?
When you buy anything online, you have 14 days to cancel and refund your order, no questions asked. This would mean we're unable to start work on booking your tests and arranging your course until this 14-day period has passed. To get you on the road ASAP, we ask you to waive this cancellation period so we can start work on your booking straight away. This doesn't affect the Money-Back Guarantee -- if we weren't able to arrange your course in line with our timescales, you'd still be able to get a full refund.
You can read more about the Money-Back Guarantee here.
How does your money-back guarantee work?
We always aim for the stars and want you to be perfectly happy with your course. If things don't go to plan and you want to cancel your course, we offer a full money-back guarantee. You'd be eligible for a refund in the rare case that:
If we're unable to connect you with a driving instructor within a reasonable time for your lessons to be completed.
Any lesson hours or test fees already used are not eligible for refund.

Your Theory Test
Can you book my theory test for me?
Yes! Once you purchase any course, we’ll allocate an instructor within 24 hours who will get in touch with you. Your instructor can assist you in booking a theory test at a time and location that suits you.
Do I need to pass my theory test before I can book a course?
No — you can book your LDS course without having passed your theory.
One thing to remember is that you must pass your theory test before the DVSA will allow to book your practical test. Due to this, our course completion estimate starts from when you tell us you've passed the theory test.
Do you offer theory test tuition?
We do! You can add theory test tuition to your course, which is a one-hour online session with a theory expert after purchasing any driving lesson. The session covers the most difficult areas of the theory test, where you'll be able to ask any questions and have access to some great resources after your session.
As well as that, our blog is full of useful tips to help you pass.
Can I change my theory test date after it's been booked?
Yeah — you can change your theory or practical test after you've booked it..
However, we advise against changing your test where possible, because it will usually delay your course by a few weeks. But, if you’re happy to push things back a little, we’re more than happy to work with you.
What if I fail theory test?
Don't panic if you fail your theory test, don’t worry – it happens! You can rebook your test after a short waiting period. In the meantime, your instructor can provide guidance and recommend resources to help you prepare for your next attempt, ensuring you’re confident and ready to pass.
Your Practical Test
When will my practical test take place?
Though we’re unable to give exact dates, LDS usually beats standard DVSA waiting times for tests by several weeks. We’ll always try to find your ideal test based on your preferred time, date, and location.
Your practical will, as standard, take place after the last session of your course.
If you want an estimate of when your test will be, please call our team on 07961 976 822.
I already have a test booked — can I still book a LDS course?
Yes, you can still book an LDS course even if you already have a test booked. We’ll allocate an instructor within 24 hours who will work with you to create a tailored lesson plan to ensure you’re fully prepared for your test.
I already have a test booked — can you get me an earlier one?
Yes! LDS specializes in fast-tracking tests, so we can usually help change your practical test to an earlier date, as long as we have an instructor available for it.
How does LDS find earlier tests?
Our fast-track department works around the clock to secure the best possible test dates. They use various methods, including swapping tests between our pool of students and being on standby to snap up cancellations.
Will I be taking my practical test in the same car as my lessons?
Yes! You’ll be taking your practical test in the same car you’ll learn in. Exceptions to this are very rare — for example, in the instance of a breakdown or emergency
Can I take my test on weekends?
Driving test centers rarely offer weekend tests. With this in mind, it probably won’t be possible for us to book your test on a weekend.
Lessons can usually take place outside of typical working hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm) but the DVSA only tends to carry out practical tests between 8am–3pm on weekdays.
I have special requirements for my test. Can I book a course with LDS?
If you have any special requirements, give us a call on 07961 976 822 and we’ll let you know whether we’re able to help.
Can I change my practical test date after it's been booked?
Yeah — you can change your theory or practical test after you've booked it..
However, we advise against changing your test where possible, because it will usually delay your course by a few weeks. But, if you’re happy to push things back a little, we’re more than happy to work with you.
I have been banned from driving before and need an extended practical test. Can I book a course with LDS?
Unfortunately, we don't currently offer extended tests. If you require an extended test, you won’t be able to book a course with us.

Existing Customers
When will my lessons start?
To give you the best chance of passing, we design our courses around the practical test date. Once a suitable date has been agreed, we’ll assign an instructor who is able to match your availability.
Building your course this way helps to keep your lessons as close to the test date as possible, so everything you learned is fresh in your mind for the big day.
Learners who are taking a beginner course may be offered the option to start their driving lessons early. Just let us know when you'd like to get started by calling us on 07961 976 822.
Can I change my instructor?
In a small minority of cases, a learner may be assigned an instructor that isn't a good fit.
It doesn’t happen often, but we’ll work closely with the learner to find a suitable resolution, including the possibility of changing to a different instructor. If we do need to assign a different instructor, then it might also be necessary to change the test date, depending on the new instructor’s availability.
Can I take breaks during the course?
Definitely! You can arrange breaks by speaking to your instructor, and if a lesson is 3+ hours they’ll probably schedule a comfort break.
It’s also a good idea to take a bottle of water and a snack to longer lessons — driving can be thirsty work!
What happens if I find the course too intensive?
This can usually be sorted by having a chat with your instructor. If you need to take things slower, then it’s likely that your test will need to be rescheduled to fit your lessons in beforehand.
Our team can help you with this, so just give us a call on 07961 976 822 if you have any questions about your course schedule.
Can I change my course hours?
It's usually possible to upgrade your course with more hours. Please let us know about this as soon as you can by calling 07961 976 822.
Downgrading of courses is not possible.
What if I don't use all my course hours?
If you end up passing with fewer lessons than you booked, you can use any leftover time for further tuition (motorway tuition, for example).
Unfortunately, due to the all-inclusive nature of our courses, any unused hours are non-refundable.
Can I change transmission?
It’s generally not possible to change transmission, especially if your practical test is booked or your course has begun.
If you do need to change transmission, your course will be delayed because we’ll need to postpone your test and find a new instructor.
What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?
If you need to cancel a lesson, you’ll need to provide at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid being charged. Please contact your instructor directly or call us at 07961 976 822 for assistance with cancellations or rescheduling.
What happens if I fall ill during my course?
If you find that you're too ill for your driving lesson, please let your instructor know as soon as possible. Be aware that we have a cancellation policy requiring 24–48 hours' notice.
I'm having issues with my course — who should I get in contact with?
Your instructor will be able to resolve most issues during lessons, so it’s always best to start by having a quick chat with them.
If you need our help, you can speak to our team by calling 07961 976 822
Can I postpone my course?
Yes — we can put your course on hold for up to 3 months. If we don’t hear from you for over 3 months, you risk your booking expiring. If this happens then a fee would be payable to reopen your booking.
To have a chat about your options, please call the office on 07961 976 822
What if I'm not ready for my practical test?
It’s normal to have some last-minute nerves, but if your instructor advises you that you’re not test ready, then we can move your test back, giving you more time.
Your instructor will have the final say on whether you’re ready for your test. They also reserve the right to withdraw use of their car for the test if they don’t think you’re ready.
What happens if I don't pass my practical test?
If you don’t pass, don’t worry! We have several options to help ensure you pass next time:
Priority Re-booking: Get priority dates for re-booking your test or additional lessons.
Leftover Hours: Use any remaining hours for your next test, subject to your instructor's agreement.
Seamless Continuity: We can often arrange your new course with the same instructor and test centre for familiarity and convenience.
